Mere paas 'job satisfaction' hai ...

I have worked in 3 different companies in the last 6 months. This after working more than 3 years in my first and 1.5 in my second. You can imagine the state of flux my mind is in these days. I intend to spend substantial time in my current job. To be able to do that I need to question my soul and try and understand what it was that made me so fickle over the last few months. Is there a magic formula to make one happy in his job ??? I have been trying to use my recent experiences to derive the magic formula and I realise that I may have finally struck gold. So here I am attempting to make your life easier by sharing my job-satisfaction-magic-formula. Also a look at how you can do better.

Thus the preacher spake .....

1. Appraisals are not the end of the world ! Do not grieve too much if not considered among the best ! Make no mistake you should always aim for the best. But if you are not then you have to learn to accept that fact. Not being able to cope with this reality is often the biggest hinderance to job satisfaction.

2.
Do not care too much about your boss's nature. Your boss does not define your company. He is just another employee. If you don't like him does not mean you do not like your company. Over a period of time it is your performance that will matter and not how your boss thinks you are. Try and keep him in good humour. It is nice if you can. It is not the end if you cannot. Try not to escape him by switching your job. Try and do well inspite of him.

3. Slog it off for those few crucial hours every day. No internet. No mails. Allocate a few hours every day. You can enjoy the rest ! Complete focus in those allocated hours can achieve much more than the usual mix of work and play !

4. Learn to be satisfied with what you have. Whether it is your current job, your current car or your current house ! There will always be better but enjoy what you have for a reasonable amount of time (read years). Only after this time you need the upgrade.

5. Always be in the loop. Never get too involved in your work such that you do not know what your peers are upto. Discuss their issues. The boss cares about this !

6. Salary is important. But do not get carried away with the jumps that a job switch present. In the long run you get promoted only in the company you stick to. So even if you are doing a little better than average in your present company do stick on. It is best bet to be promoted !!

So there it is. My 2 cents on how to be happy with your job. I sure hope i can practice what i preach .....

I can close my eyes and tell that such thing can come from Anu Wads. I enjoyed reading it. However regarding your 2 point, it has very well been established that except for a fresher who mostly doesn't know what he/she wants in their life, everybody else leaves their BOSS and never the company.
